i responded to a request from Trish O'Kane (Birding to Change the World, Ecco 2024). She asked that I spread the word about 1200 trees scheduled for destruction in a DC National Park. I wrote On Behalf of Rock Creek Park on my Substack, @Matters of Kinship. If you have a moment, would you consider reading and signing the letter to Deb Haaland, Director of the Interior? in kinship, Katharine
P.S. My home is in the coastal plains of south Georgia. I find sanctuary among tall pines, oaks, and hickories in my 6-acre swamp. The history these trees have seen and the haven for wildlife they provide! All trees are living beings and they teach us to slow down and reflect. Please allow the trees in Rock Creek Park to continue to do this for generations to come. They give us much more than we provide in return. The least we can do is allow them to be."
well done, Becki!

I was right there with you, walking down the path. Reviving memories. Connection.
Love the names Seeing Tree, Mother Oak, and Sit Spot. Very beautiful connection to place and those realms beyond our knowing
