Love this, Becki. I'm envious of your hunting abilities--it's one of those things I've always said I'd like to learn but never did do it. Happy Thanksgiving!

Thank you for reading. After reading some of these comments, y’all got me thinking of a new essay of how I became a hunter, as a wildlife lover, it was something I’d never imagine I’d do.

Becki, I love to hear you read these stories, and walk along the path with you. The details you include bring everything to life. I wonder—do you take a journal with you to the deer stand or your kayak? Do you return from your local journeys and jot everything down before you forget? You’ve left me wanting more.

Thank you Cathy. I thought about using notes on my phone to jot down the things I saw but I was trying to be so still & pay attention that I decided not to. And kayaking, my hands are both busy trying to keep me straight. Knowing I won’t be able to take notes in the moment, I make myself pay extra close attention to details & the first thing I do when I get to pen & paper is jot them down. While I’m doing whatever I’m planning to describe later, it’s a fun little exercise to create the sentences in my head of how I want to describe something. Asking myself what things look like or remind me of. Thanks for asking about my process. I’m working on a writing update soon, this could be a good little blurb.
