I am feeling… tired. It has definitely been a Monday. I try really hard to leave my schedule open on Mondays so that I can ease into the week and find my groove. I use Monday mornings to catch up on things that were left unfinished from the previous week. But today, I was running late. I got half way to work, and my OCD kicked in because I thought I had left my laptop at home. Can’t work without my laptop! So I turned around and came back, searched the house and realized I must NOT have taken it home for the weekend—thank you Monday.
When I finally arrived at work, I barely got settled in when someone was there to see me (without an appointment). That meeting lasted almost an hour and could’ve been accomplished in 15 minutes. During the meeting, both of my cell phones were ringing and I was being paged on my desk phone.
When that overextended meeting ended, I started returning phone calls. It wasn’t even 10:30 AM yet. The first issue was a real puzzle. A mystery to be unraveled, like so many things left to me by my predecessor. Once I finally got it solved, I added notes to our database so the next person who may encounter it, wouldn’t have to waste an hour of their lives.
I worked out the rest of the phone call problems pretty quickly, and before I knew it…time for lunch. I ate my boring little ham and cheese sandwich in the darkness of the conference room alone. It’s not completely dark, it’s lit by several floor to ceiling windows. After a morning like I had, it was a welcome retreat.
While I was relaxing eating my sandwich, I missed a phone call on my cell phone because I purposely left it lying on my desk. A contractor was letting me know he was ready for inspection. I hurriedly gathered my things and went to see him. It was HOT! Over 100 degrees hot! I truly don’t know how these guys work in this all day. I did my inspection, wrote up my report and hopped back into the cool AC of my work truck to head back to the cool AC of the office.
When I got back to the office, I was locked out of the back door and staff is low today so I had to walk around to the front—thank you Monday. Then I spent the rest of the afternoon trying to catch up on my paperwork but was having technical issues with the database.
I spoke with my boss and we’re on alert for the incoming hurricane, Idalia. There could be shelters opening that need inspecting. I need to get forms ready and be prepared. I didn’t finish every thing I wanted to accomplish at work today, but maybe I can scoot in earlier in the morning and get it done.
After work, I had to pick up a grocery order. We usually like to do those on Friday but we had forgotten several items. There was a long wait that late in the afternoon, and again I felt bad for the guys and girls pulling their carts back and forth from store to car and back again in this heat.
I finally made it home after 5:00 PM. I spent some time getting everything put away. I went out to the greenhouse to bring in my seedlings for a bit since it had been so hot today. I promptly dumped one of the trays upside down—thank you Monday. Thankfully it was mostly collards and I have WAY too many of them. Wishing this heat would break so I can get these seedlings pricked out and potted up.
Now here it is 7:00 PM and it’s flooding rain outside, so I won’t be potting up today.
Overall, it wasn’t a bad day, but I’m beat. I didn’t sleep well last night. I was hoping to see the grand boys this afternoon, but maybe tomorrow will be better. I like being fun, energetic Granny. Alas, tomorrow I work until 6:30 PM, so I don’t think that will be a possibility.
