I realize I ghosted y’all for a couple of weeks. It’s been a rough month, but then September always is and I had hoped writing through it was going to make it easier. But I learned something about my writing style and the reason there are so many gaps in my old journals. You can read more about that below:
I’m back now but I’ve adjusted my writing schedule and you can read more about that here. Now let’s get started…
Breathe in……….breathe out.
Breathe in…….…breathe out.
Breathe in…….…breathe out.
Sneeze…10 times!
Sip on my warm coffee, feel the cool air on my legs and the warm sunshine on my face, as I sit in my greenhouse on this beautiful morning. It’s the first day of fall and I feel refreshed like this is a new beginning to something. We are further along in our fall gardening than we got last year. The seeds I started in mid-August are now nice size starts and we’ve gotten most of them planted out into hubby’s garden. I’ve also planted some in my greenhouse but I haven’t figured out how I’m going to keep the grand boys out of them since the area I opened up in the floor has become their favorite play area. Little boys and dirt just go hand in hand.
Roosters crowing…blue jays “jaying…mosquitoes biting.
This will be the first fall we won’t be raising any meats for our freezer. We seem to have a bit of free time on our hands, since I can’t stand to be idle, I have taken up a new project of trying to bring some life back to our river house. It is quite a project and I’ll be sure to share our progress.
I’ve only spent a couple of Saturdays down there thus far. I can’t really work on the inside until the weather cools off so I can open it up and air it out. It’s full of dusty mildew. But there is also a nice size shop down there that I hope Hubby can reclaim as a workspace. As much as I love the farm, it’s nice to have an escape that is right down the road.
Hubby came down with me the first weekend for an assessment. He turned the water back on and found leaks everywhere from busted pipes. He fixed the one under the house but there is still one up in the attic from the water heater. He said the back deck is causing the back of the house to rot off, so we’re going to have to remove it. I want to completely gut the kitchen so removing the back deck will make it easier to throw all that out. There is an old oak that is completely dead and leaning towards the house that concerns me. It has decayed to the point that it is growing mushrooms. I pray it just collapses down on itself and not on to the roof of our porch.
All I’ve really been able to work on is raking in the yards, burning leaves, and cleaning out the shop. I put up a hummingbird feeder and within minutes had a visitor. I spend a lot of time sitting on the porch watching the 2 little hummers do acrobatics. I love the smell of oak leaves burning in the fall air. The river has been really full the past few weeks and the mosquitoes are HELL down there. The smoke helps keep them at bay for a bit.
Lazy buzzy bumblebees on the morning glories…”bzzzzzzzzzzzz” Hubby waiting on me to come help him finish planting in his garden…The sounds of wind chimes, my timer going off…
Guess it’s time to wrap this up. Thanks for reading. Hope this inspires you to do your own free write to unclog your head. It really does help to get it out some how, some where. As always, I would love to read whatever you come up with. Make sure you get out and ground yourself today and come write with me again soon!
