This blog is meant to inspire you to write with my super simple writing prompts which will remain the same throughout the year. My plan is for this to be a weekday writing exercise. Something to inspire you, inspire me, & re-awaken our spirit by grounding us.

This is the basic premise which invites you to focus on one of each of the 5 senses:

Monday— I am feeling…

Tuesday— I am listening to…

Wednesday—I am tasting…

Thursday—I am watching…

Friday— I am smelling…

Set a timer for 30 minutes and then just free write whatever comes to mind with the prompt for that day. It can be a journal entry, fictional story, or a poem. Don’t overthink it, don’t edit it, don’t make it complicated. Just write!

I suggest writing with pencil and paper. That is how I will be writing my entries and of course they will be edited before I post them. Let’s have fun, let’s write together! Feel free to share your work in the comments or send me an email.

Update 9.23.23

I had a great start with this blog, however, I was quickly realizing that finding that 30 minutes EVERYDAY was getting increasingly difficult.  Therefore, I’m going to adjust my writing schedule and give myself some grace.  If I can carve out 30 minute free writes 3 times a week, I’ll be happy.  Also, remember as you are reading these…they are extremely raw because they are free writes.  There may be punctuation and grammatical errors and I’m sharing that all with you.  This is meant to be whatever words flow out of me when I am grounded through one of my 5 senses.  I’m not going to stick to the daily schedule I mentioned in the beginning.  I’m just going to start with breathing….and then whichever of the senses takes me in whatever direction I need to go.  The key word here is free, if I add too many restrictions to myself, the words won’t flow freely.  The idea is to keep your pen/pencil in motion or fingers moving on the keyboard for 30 minutes.  Sometimes it may come out as some kind of abstract work, poetry, or a story.  Just let it flow.

“Let it flow, let yourself go, slow and low, that is the tempo…”

When I first started this, I was free writing by hand in a notebook and then having to type it up, so that was taking double the amount of time.  I’m now going to free write in a document and copy and paste.  Since you don’t have to share your work, I highly recommend writing with paper and pen.  It’s definitely more organic and ideas may flow more freely.  As always, I would enjoy reading anything you would like to share with me.

Now let’s start again…afresh…
